Maintaining color-treated hair after a visit to the salon requires proper care and attention. Here are some tips to help you preserve your salon-fresh color for as long as possible:

Use Color-Safe Shampoo and Conditioner

Invest in high-quality, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners designed for color-treated hair. These products are formulated to be gentle on your color and help it last longer. We offer a variety of color safe shampoos, conditioners and styling products at all of our salon locations. Be sure to ask your stylist for recommendations!

Wash with Cool Water

Hot water can strip away color and natural oils from your hair. Use lukewarm or cool water when washing your hair to help maintain your gorgeous new color.

Limit Washing

Consider reducing the frequency of hair washing. Washing your hair too often can cause color to fade faster. Consider using dry shampoo between washes to keep your hair looking and feeling fresh.

Shampoo Properly

When you do shampoo, focus on cleansing the scalp and roots, where oil and product buildup occur. Avoid scrubbing the lengths of your hair, as this can strip away color.

Protect Your Hair from the Sun

UV rays from the sun can cause color fading. Wear a hat or use hair products with UV protection when spending time outdoors.

Avoid Chlorine and Saltwater

Chlorine and saltwater can both be harsh on colored hair. If you’re swimming in a pool, consider wearing a swim cap, and rinse your hair thoroughly with fresh water after swimming in saltwater. Chlorine can be especially damaging for colored hair as it reacts with the chemicals in the hair dye, causing your color to fade or even turn greenish in extreme cases. This is a common concern for blondes, as the chlorine can interact with the yellow or green tones in blonde hair, resulting in an undesirable shade.

Use Heat Styling Tools Sparingly

Excessive heat from styling tools can accelerate color fading. If you must use heat styling tools, use a heat protectant spray and keep the temperature as low as possible.

Schedule Regular Touch-Ups

Depending on the type of color treatment you’ve had, you may need periodic touch-ups at the salon to refresh your color and keep it looking vibrant.

Use Deep Conditioning Treatments

Use deep conditioning treatments or hair masks designed for color-treated hair once a week or as needed to keep your hair hydrated and healthy. All of our salons offer conditioning treatments at an affordable price! Book a treatment today.

Be Mindful of Hair Products

Choose styling products like hairsprays and serums that are specifically formulated for color-treated hair. Some products can contain ingredients that may fade your color.

Consult with Your Stylist

Your hairstylist can provide personalized advice on how to maintain your specific hair color. They can recommend products and treatments tailored to your needs.
