The Best Cuts for Curly Hair

While curly hair can often get a bad rap for being hard to manage, frizzy or unruly, when cut and styled correctly, curly hair can look effortlessly beautiful. Getting the right cut for wavy or curly hair is essential, as not all styles are optimal for this type of hair. We’ve outlined a few of our top recommendations for the best curly cuts.

The Lob

The lob (or long bob) is definitely having a moment in 2022. We love this cut for curly hair as it creates depth and layers, and it works especially well for hair that is on the coarser side. Ask your stylist for a cut that is shorter in the back, with longer pieces that frame your face for a slightly edgy look.

Layered Curls

If your hair is medium to long, a layered cut is great for creating shape while giving movement and volume to hair. This style also works great for wavy hair or hair that has slight curl as it helps to create the illusion of volume.

Curly Shag Looser curls are perfect for this piecey, shaggy look. However, this cut creates more volume toward the roots and wispier at the ends, which can be prone to frizz. To keep this style looking shag-adelic, use a serum or pomade when hair is damp and let it dry naturally.

Short and Sweet Show off major curls with a short, sassy cut. This style works well for all curl types, from tight to loose waves.

In addition to getting the perfect cut, maintaining your curly hair is of the utmost importance to keep them hydrated, bouncy and free from frizz.

– Shampoo once or twice a week to reduce frizz.
– Use hydrating masks at least once a month to keep curls bouncy and frizz-free.
– Close cuticles and seal in moisture with a final cold-water rinse before you exit the shower.
– Whenever possible, let hair air dry to keep moisture locked in and result in the best curls.
– Keep curls protected while you sleep! Consider investing in a silk pillow and tie your hair into a pineapple updo by loosely tying your hair on the top of your head! This will help keep curls shape and eliminate frizz.
