Salon Leader and stylist Merci Johnson is affectionately known as the “Offering Queen, Working Machine!” As an 18-year veteran who has worked at the Holiday Hair in Dayton, Ohio, Merci says she can’t imagine doing anything else for her career.
“I never thought I’d do hair professionally, but I’ve always loved doing it for fun,” she said. “Being a hairstylist makes me so happy because I love making other people happy. There is nothing better than seeing the look on customers’ faces after they’ve gotten a fresh cut or color.”
As an industry veteran, Merci learned how to be a great stylist and provide exceptional customer service through her real-world experience and most notably, from her past colleagues. When she was a new stylist, she relied on her “work family” to provide support, help her remedy mistakes, and model how to provide exceptional customer service. Now, Merci says she enjoys being able to provide that same level of mentorship to new stylists who join the salon team.
“The biggest thing I have learned and always tell new stylists is to not feel intimidated, especially when it comes to recommending services and products to your customers,” she said. “Don’t be afraid to hear no. If you never ask or make the recommendation for a conditioning treatment or wax service, you will never know if you could’ve sold it!”
Merci is number one in her territory for total sales month over month, number two in the region for total sales within the last month, and number three in the company in total sales for the last month! “She is a true believer in staying up-to-date on the latest trends, continuing education, and staying true to her craft,” said Artina Bentley, Merci’s Territory Leader.
In her spare time, Merci enjoys sewing, crocheting, and watching hair videos and how-to’s! She loves learning new techniques and staying current on the cutting edge of trends so she can better serve her clients.
