Holiday Hair Stylist Janay Kendall

Barb Pistilli’s journey in the beauty industry began with a spark ignited in high school when she took her first beauty class. She graduated in 1979 and began working in a small salon before moving to another salon that would eventually become Cost Cutters, where she has worked continuously since 1978.

For Barb, hair styling isn’t just a job; it makes her feel fulfilled. “It’s a feel-good job,” she said. “Clients leave happy, and that makes me happy. It doesn’t get any better than that.” Her enthusiasm for her work is infectious, and she thrives on the relationships she’s built over the years. From young children to elderly clients, Barb’s chair is where everyone feels welcome.

Barb loves the variety of her jobs, as the Cost Cutters in Parma, Ohio, serve a wide range of clients. She especially loves doing perms – both for elderly clients and the recent surge of teenage boys who have embraced this classic style. She also enjoys cutting and styling hair of all lengths and textures, always keeping her work exciting.

As a veteran stylist, Barb often mentors young stylists just starting their careers at Cost Cutters. She advises them to always listen to their clients, taking the time to understand their vision. “Come to an agreement before you start,” she said. “Explain why or why not a certain style will work for them.” This approach builds trust and ensures clients leave the salon feeling confident and satisfied.

When Barb isn’t behind the chair, she enjoys spending time in nature and exploring hiking trails with her husband.
