While Caitlyn Johnston, a stylist at the Cost Cutters in Defiance Ohio may be fresh out of school, she has already made a major impact on her leaders and team members.
“Caitlyn is doing a phenomenal job, especially since she recently passed the boards earlier this year,” said Trisha Helberg, Salon Leader. “She is great with consultations and never hesitates to ask questions. I’ve seen her flourish since she started as a stylist-in-training, and I’m excited to watch her grow as a stylist and a person.”
After graduating from Paul Mitchell Beauty School in June 2022, Caitlyn wanted to find a salon where she could continue to refine her skills as a new stylist. Caitlyn says her team in the Cost Cutters Defiance Ohio salon are truly like a family, always fostering a positive environment, and willing to help one another. She appreciates being able to work at a place that welcomes and embraces questions helping her develop as a stylist.
Caitlyn said that being able to work hands-on at the salon has helped her grow immensely. Fellow stylists who have been in the industry longer have been able to teach her different ways of providing services compared to what she learned in school, which has helped to boost her confidence and independence. She most enjoys providing color services where she can see dramatic transformations.
Caitlyn had the following advice for fellow stylists just entering the field: “Know that it’s OK to make mistakes,” she said. “Don’t let it get you down. Mistakes happen and you’ll come back from it.”
